Pediatric Dentistry

The first impression and experience will set the stage for your child’s initial and long lasting feeling towards dentistry and his or her oral health. So we work hard to make each experience fun and comfortable. We at Complete Dental Care of Avon know how to engage with children to reduce any anxiety the child may have.

Our dentists have years of experience working with children and dealing with their dental needs. We are here for your children through all their milestones when it comes to their oral health!

When should I bring my child to the dentist?

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, your child should have their first dental appointment by the time their first tooth erupts or by the age of one, whichever is earlier.

To ensure that your little one’s smile gets off to a great start, we recommend bringing your child to visit us for routine preventative care atleast twice a year.

What are the services that are available for pediatric patients?

Regular Checkups and Cleanings – Tooth decay is perhaps the most common condition in children. These are typically caused by sugars left in the mouth that turn to acid and break down the teeth. Lack of regular, good oral hygiene habits can exacerbate the condition. Proper brushing and flossing routines combined with regular dental visits help keep tooth decay away.

Fluoride Treatments– We recommend fluoride treatments along with cleanings twice a year to keep a child’s teeth the strongest. Fluoride is a nature-bound mineral that has the ability to reinforce the enamel thereby making it resistant to dental caries. At Complete Dental Care of Avon, we provide professional fluoride treatments for pediatric patients. A fluoride gel or varnish is typically applied to your child’s teeth as part of this routine. Ensure that they avoid food or drinks for at least half-an-hour after the treatment is complete.

Dental Sealants– A dental sealant ensures that the deep groves in your child’s teeth are “sealed” preventing decay from forming in hard to reach areas. Sealants last for several years but will be monitored at yours child’s regular checkups.

Digital X-Rays – X-rays are rarely necessary for kids under the age of five. However, depending on underlying conditions, the dentist may require a radiographic diagnosis.

Sports Mouthguards– Children are prone to accidents during play. Mouthguards help protect teeth and gums from injury. If your child participates in basketball, boxing, hockey, football, gymnastics, lacrosse, martial arts, racquetball, rugby, track and field, skateboarding, skiing and snowboarding, skydiving, soccer, surfing, volleyball, water polo, weightlifting, or wrestling, it is recommended by the American Dental Association that a mouthguard be worn. At Complete Dental Care of Avon, we can provide our young athletes with custom-made mouthguards to protect them from injury.

Dental Hygiene Education– It is important to inculcate proper oral hygiene habits in a child as early as possible and at Complete Dental Care of Avon, our dentists makes it key to educate young patients on oral hygiene beginning with proper methods of brushing and flossing, depending on the age of the patient.
