Comprehensive Dental Exam
If you think that you have a great oral hygiene routine, your teeth and gums in excellent condition and therefore, don’t require a comprehensive dental examination, you are in for a surprise. Brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing, and doing mouthwash gargles will keep most of your dental complications at bay but, you will still need periodic dental check-ups and dental cleanings to prolong the life of your precious pearly whites.
- A thorough evaluation of your medical and dental history and evaluation of any medications you are on
- Examination of all your teeth to check for caries or any form of tooth damage such as abrasion, and any existing dental work issues.
- Examination of any gum disease, pockets, or other signs of inflammation such as bleeding using a periodontal probe
- Oral cancer screening
- extraoral examination of the head and neck area for lymph node enlargements; jaw joint checks for any abnormal clicking sounds or discomfort in opening and closing of the mouth (TMJ issues)
- Radiographs to assess the condition of your jaw and teeth for any sign of abnormality or infection.
- Impressions of your jaws to record your bite
Your dentist or a dental hygienist will recommend the type of dental cleaning you may need.
Although a comprehensive oral examination is an extensive process, it helps us to better understand your dental predicaments and thereby plan better treatment for you.
